So when they said they were putting up a statue of him, people were thrilled. We all imagined something powerful and cool, maybe a pose capturing one of his famous dunks or his “flash” moments. Instead, what we got looks, well, odd. Some fans even said it looks like he’s holding a flashlight! Can you imagine? A flashlight, for Dwyane Wade? People couldn’t believe it.

But maybe it isn’t totally fair to only laugh at the statue. Art can be tricky, and sometimes the artist’s vision doesn’t match what everyone expects. However, when you’re creating a statue for a beloved sports icon like Wade, fans expect to be blown away. It’s a tough call—how do you capture someone as iconic as Wade in a single piece of art? In this case, a lot of fans feel like the artist missed the mark.
I do think it’s nice that Wade himself didn’t seem too upset by it. In fact, he seemed pretty excited and proud. His positive reaction definitely helped ease the disappointment a bit. But fans are still hoping that maybe, just maybe, they’ll update the statue in the future to look a little more like the Wade we all know and admire.
